The Institute for the Promotion of Education (IPEDU), with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Kosovo, organized a conference to mark the 20th anniversary of the project “Our Rights to Education for Children’s Rights in Kosovo.” This project has had a significant impact on the education of children and the improvement of their access to human rights, particularly in minority communities.

The Ambassador of Slovenia to Kosovo, Minca Benedejcic, emphasized the importance of empowering children through human rights education. She explained that this project has had a significant impact on the education of children, enabling them to learn about their rights and the respect of others’ rights.

Children’s Rights and Empowerment through Education

Ambassador Benedejcic highlighted that one of the main goals of the project is to enable children, especially those in the development phase, to understand and respect human rights. This year, the project includes children from Bosniak and Turkish minority communities, emphasizing the importance of human rights education for all children, regardless of their ethnic group.

Many children in Kosovo still face discrimination and poverty

The Head of UNICEF in Kosovo, Veronika Vashchenko, called for an increase in access to early education, especially in rural areas. She also emphasized that many children from Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities still face discrimination and often drop out of school.

The project “Our Rights” has been implemented in Kosovo since the 2005/2006 school year and aims to educate children aged 9-13 about their rights through activities and educational materials. This project has been a model for inclusive education and has had a direct impact on many children from various ethnic and social groups.

The implementation of this project in Kosovo has been successful and has created opportunities for many children from marginalized groups to access education and learn about their rights. This project is an excellent model of international cooperation and the importance of fair and inclusive education for all children in Kosovo.
